Trip to the West, Tribute to Ella Maillart is on the one hand a photo exhibition, and on the other hand a bilingual book (Chinese–French) that recounts with words and images, the trip of French, Chinese and Swiss photographers and writers who went to Xinjiang two years ago, from Urumqi to Aksu, via Kashgar and Hetian, following Ella Maillart’s footsteps. Pascale Kramer (writrer), Sabine Weiss (photographer), David Collin (author-producer), Eric Dessert (photographer), Corinne Debaine-Francfort (archaeologist), Michele Lesbre (writer), Shu Cai (poet), Ji Dahai (painter), Li Xueliang (photographer) and Shen Wei (poet) took part in the project. Their work, which has been realised to honour the memory of the adventuress Ella Maillart, pioneer of the Humanist trend, is celebrating the sensitivity of travelling writers and photographers who have crossed borders towards others.
