Exclusive Japan Art Tour

This comprehensive tour will cross 2 major art sites and a cultural city of Koyto. Led by Hong Kong Art School lecturer, and art professional, participants will enjoy the artistic and refined environment surrounded by the beautiful autumn landscape. We will explore art pieces and architectures from masters including Yayoi Kusama, Lee Ufan, Tadao Ando, Ryue Nishizawa and spend our stay in a luxurious Benesse House at Naoshima designed by Tadao Ando, where art lovers will spend two nights surrounded by arts. We will also visit Japanese garden and the local craftsman workshop to experience the Japanese aesthetic ideals. Additionally, participants will have chances to meet artist/craftsman in person, to get the first-hand stories about how they blend contemporary art and traditional culture.

Wylie Chan
Principal Lecturer & Project Development Coordinator, Hong Kong Art School
Wylie has a strong academic and educational background in fine art and a professional background in the design/applied art area. Prior to joining the Hong Kong Art School, he was a practicing designer based in Hong Kong and the United States. Wylie has more than 18 years of experience in teaching art and design, as well as topics related to applied aesthetics. Additionally, Wylie is a member of the Hong Kong Designers Association, and a Subject External Examiner of the Open University of Hong Kong.

Wylie graduated from University of Illinois, USA with a BFA degree in Design, and obtained his MFA degree from RMIT, Australia. The experience allows him to have a deep understanding of both the local and oversea design works. He is passionate about promoting arts, culture, and he actively participants in educational programmes. As a Japanese culture expert, Wylie hosts a radio programme sharing exchange trips/experience about arts and culture of Japan.

Sophie Hu
Art Learning Development Director & Lecturer, Hong Kong Arts Centre
Sophie Hu has rich teaching experience -- in addition to leading the Art Learning programmes at HKAC, Sophie is also the Art Education Consultant for brands and corporates such as Cartier, Blancpain, and The International New York Times, providing Art Appreciation & Investment courses for their top clients as well as senior managers. Before joining the Centre, Sophie served at Christie’s Education Asia and was in charge of curriculum design, research, lectures, and developing collaborations with art institutions. She designed programmes and lectured for the EMBA class of top business schools, including China Europe International Business School (CIEBS) and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), in addition to clients of Christie’s auction house.

In conjunction with the Shanghai Museum, Sophie Hu was one of the editors of Chen Hongshou and Cui Zizhong – Two Master Painters from Ming Dynasty China, and her exhibition reviews were published in professional art media, including The Art NewsPaperSophie Hu obtained her BA from The University of Hong Kong and MA from Boston University.
