Promoting Hong Kong Comics by Decorating Comix Home Base: Comix New Decor - Autumn

Date & Time:
12/12/2017 - 22/06/2018  From 10:00 am to 8:00 pm

The Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Comix Home Base and Wan Chai District Council, organize the “Promoting Hong Kong Comics by Decorating Comix Home Base”, under the sponsorship of Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

It is a one year programme that invites the trade to nominate local animation and comics (Ani-Com) artists to contribute their artworks for decorating the Comix Home Base. The programme is carried out in four phases, with the "Comix New Decor – Autumn” as the second phase.

In this phase, a giant banner designed by a local illustrator, Miss Jane Lee, under the theme of Victoria Harbor is hung up at the Comix Home Base courtyard. It features 68 local Ani-Com characters who are participating in different kinds of activities in the harbor and on the coast near some landmark buildings (such as Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center) to showcase Hong Kong’s vibrancy.

Same as the first phase, the second phase also features some 4-Panel Comics at different parts of Comix Home Base, and the theme this time is "Worth thinking over". "Worth thinking over" is a famous theme often appears in the "Old Master Q". Maggie Lau, CK Keung, Bigsoil, Suet Ching, Lai Tat Tat Wing, Leung Chun, Kim Li and Yan Ip (in no particular order) are invited to reinterpret this theme by using their own style in this phase’s 4-Panel Comics, to pay tribute to the comics master, Wong Chak.

Meanwhile, the Comic Art Gallery, another highlight of the project, has adopted a new theme of "Love". Comics collections themed on love of Lee Wai-chun, Jeffrey Lau, Stella So, Maggie Lau, Suet Ching, Cuson Lo, Bigsoil, Gordon Chin, Tweety Leung, Ko Sing, Kim Li, Wong Chiu Tat, Chan Siu Kau and Wong Sze Ma (by courtesy of Wong’s family) (in no particular order) are exhibited at the Comic Art Gallery, with some of them being the artists’ original manuscripts.

The “Promoting Hong Kong Comics by Decorating Comix Home Base” project will continue to update the decorations in Comix Home Base, with a view to further establishing the historical Wan Chai into an Ani-Com hub with both creative and tourism elements.
