Comix Home Base － Comix & the City Exhibition & Talk

Comix Home Base (CHB), an Art Community to cultivate comics and animation inspiration and creativity, will be established for the Hong Kong public in Wanchai in 2013.  The CHB embodies the colorful energies of Hong Kong’s comics and animation culture and serves to enrich the local community’s arts and cultural life.  As a prelude to the CHB’s opening, there will be an exhibition and a talk presented by a group of prominent local comics and animation artists to serve as platforms for our audience to discover the magnetic auras of the art forms.

“I love my city!” is a recent proclamation in the many personal stories by Hong Kong comics artists and animators that has whipped up the recent new waves of local comics.

A group of locally born and raised artists will share their urban inspirations and snippets in artistic creation with our audience.  You can see how they conceive their captivating ideas from their lives.  Their themes range from everyday stories to media events in different Hong Kong districts — a small stall by the street, the long heritage of Hong Kong ding ding (now the world’s only existing double-decker tram), amongst others.

Based on their intimate observation of the community and daily interactions with people from different districts, these artists have illuminated the city’s many hidden charms.

Talk: Comics, Animation & Life

The pleasure in life comes from observation — Kongkee, Rainbow Leung, Stella So, and Alfred Sung will let us know how they brew their artistic essences in their comics and animations, bringing their audience’s attention to the distinctive qualities of the different areas of Hong Kong, and reminding you to pay closer attention to the loveliness of the people, happenings, and sceneries around you.

The four artists will discuss their beloved districts and how comics and animation can enter into our lives and enrich us.
