Announces Mr. Nelson Leong as New Board Chairman and Welcomes Two New Board Members Mr. Ronald Kan and Ms. Lam Lit-kwan


Hong Kong Arts Centre is pleased to announce that Mr. Nelson Leong has been appointed by the Chief Executive as the Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2015, succeeding Mrs. Cissy Pao Watari, BBS who will retire from the Board as Chairman on 31 March, 2012.

Mr. Leong has extensive experience in corporate management and is an art supporter. Mr. Leong is a member of the Board of Governors and serves as the Chairman of the Building Committee since 10 July 2009 and the Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Centre since 1 April 2011.

Ms. Connie Lam, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Centre said, “On behalf of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, I would like to welcome Mr. Nelson Leong to be our new Board Chairman, and we also would like to take this opportunity to honour Mrs. Cissy Pao Watari’s contribution as Chairman of the Board in the past 6 years. Under her leadership, the Hong Kong Arts Centre has grown tremendously, making significant impact on the development of the Hong Kong arts scene. We are pleased that Mrs. Watari has accepted our invitation to be our Honorary President, and to continue to serve the board as Chairman of the Arts Programme Committee, to work with us hand in hand towards the a better future for the Hong Kong Arts Centre.”

The Hong Kong Arts Centre is also pleased to announce two new members who have been appointed by the Chief Executive to join the Board from 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2015, Mr. Ronald Kan, Assistant Solicitor of Tony Kan & Co and Deputy Secretary of the Association of Hong Kong Professionals and Ms. Lam Lit-kwan, Chief Executive Officer of Recom Education Group and former Assistant Director of Housing Department and Director (Asset Management) of The Link Management Limited.

The Hong Kong Arts Centre has an exciting major programmes line-ups for April – May, 2012. To name a few, the Comix Home Base’s Comix & the City Exhibition and Talk (13 April – 25 May), ROOTS: Jorge Mayet Solo Exhibition (14 – 20 May), Open House 2012 (19 May), Birdcalls in the Floating World(21 – 28 May), The Cinema of Evans Chan and Sonic Anchor#2 in April, and Ecstatic Truth – The Documentary Films of Werner Herzog and Sonic Anchor#3 in May, as well as our public art project Eolus by Nathalie Decoster (April – September, 2012).

On the Hong Kong Arts Centre
Celebrating its 35th anniversary in October, 2012, the Hong Kong Arts Centre has a strong heritage and is one of the respected arts institutions . The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) has been serving the Hong Kong community as an NGO for over 30 years under a self-financing business model with its mission to promote contemporary arts and culture within and across the border. The HKAC houses facilities that include theatres, a cinema, galleries, classrooms, studios, restaurants as well as office spaces occupied by local and international arts and culture organisations. Its education arm, the Hong Kong Art School (HKAS), was established in 2000. Over 800 award-bearing programme students and over 3,000 short course students have been benefited from the HKAS’s programmes each year.
