Hong Kong Arts Centre – Shouson Theatre & McAulay Studio Performing Arts Venue Subsidy Scheme
 
Invitation for Proposals
 
Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) hereby invites qualified arts organizations and individual artists to submit proposals for the Hong Kong Arts Centre –Performing Arts Venue Subsidy Scheme (Shouson Theatre and McAulay Studio). Interested parties can obtain application guidelines and forms from the HKAC Office at 8/F, Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong during office hours, or download the forms from the links below.
 
Completed applications (with the production/venue usage schedule) must be deposited into the collection box located at the above address before 6:30pm for the following deadline of application. Please mark " Hong Kong Arts Centre –Performing Arts Venue Subsidy Scheme (McAulay Studio )” or " Hong Kong Arts Centre –Performing Arts Venue Subsidy Scheme (Shouson Theatre)" on the envelope when applying for respective scheme. Applications submitted by post will only be accepted if postmarked no later than the deadline. Late applications or applications submitted via fax, email or other digital form will not be processed.
 
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants:
 
a. Individual artists and emerging young artists over the age of 18 at the time of application who reside in Hong Kong;
b. All local arts groups registered and operating in Hong Kong;
c. Subsidiaries or departments of registered organisations applying for the Scheme on behalf of a parent organization must submit an authorization letter issued by the parent organisation officially delegating authority to the subsidiary or department to apply for the Scheme and to sign the application and relevant documents on behalf of the parent organisation.
d. Applicants are eligible to apply for the HKADC’s grants at the same time.
e. First priorities will be given to current one-year or 2-year grant recipients of HKADC.
f. In consideration of the aim and scope of the Scheme, HKAC will not consider Applications from major professional performing arts groups currently receiving funding from the Home Affairs Bureau.
g. HKAC will neither accept nor process any Application which does not meet the above criteria.
 
Scope of Subsidy:
 
a. Applications may only be for subsidized use of the Venue, used for rehearsing and presenting innovative art-works and performances.
b. The Venue Subsidy only covers venue rental of the Venue and the following items (i to v):
 
i. Subsidy on venue rental (theatre and side stage) and the foyer, plus ushering service as required, i.e. Front of House service, venue support technician;
ii. For Shouson Theatre, the venue subsidy will be given not more than 7 days for each submitted project in each application period (if the project is more than 7 days, special approval will be considered subject to the availability), and the venue subsidy will not be more than 50% of total venue rental.
iii. For McAulay Studio, the venue subsidy will be given not more than 14 days for each submitted project in each application period (if the project is more than 14 days, special approval will be considered subject to the availability), and the venue subsidy will not be more than 70% of total venue rental.
iv. Tickets must be sold via URBTIX ticketing services
v. The rental for using additional equipment/ service, video and sound archiving charges and other miscellaneous charges are at full responsibility of the applicant(s).
c. Performances must be open to the public and should be ticketed. Applicants who would like to organize free performance(s) should provide information of how the free performance(s) could benefit the community or students as a whole.
d. Activities listed below do not fall within the scope of support:
 
Activities that are sole presentations of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).
Fund-raising activities and activities presented by foundations which are themselves established for fundraising purposes.
Activities which are socializing in nature, activities that are not open to the public, and profit-making commercial activities or training classes.
For pure social welfare and charity projects with no artistic elements, HKAC suggests the Applicants to seek for support from other charitable groups and voluntary organisations.
