Night Owl House Music Series

In the night and before bedtime, you just simply slow down the rapid pace from the daytime. We have prepared a music live concert for you. During the first part of the show, let’s soak into the jazzy vibe curated by Jazz Guitarist/Composer Teriver Cheung, bringing us two duos of Bowen Li (Keyboard) & Lui Ngao Yuen (Double Bass), followed by Suzanne Jen (Vocal) & Yusuke Hatano (Keyboard).

When the night falls, let's encounter with singer songwriter Jing Wong to feel his soft while passionate folk rock, alongside with violinist Felix Tham, to give you a storytelling improvised performance.

Bowen Li is a freelance pianist and composer, performing with different bands in Hong Kong and London. He moved to London in 2014 to study in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where he majored in jazz performance and composition, and graduated in July 2018. Bowen receives tuition from some of the best in the field including Martin Speake (Paul Motion, Bobo Stenson, Ethan Iverson), Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear, Kenny Wheeler, Radiohead) and Liam Noble (Larry Grenadier, Eric Harland).
During his time in London, Bowen performed with various groups as a pianist. He played with the Traditional Jazz Ensemble in the main show of Ronnie’s Scotts, and led his own group or played as a sideman in jazz venues such as the Vortex, Olivers, Blackheath Halls, The Crown, Up the Creek, Buster Mantis…
Bowen has also performed widely in Hong Kong, played in venues such as the Fringe Club, Visage One, Street Music Concert Series, Winthrop Jazz Studio, Brew Note Coffee, and also music festivals such as Freespace Happening, Music Fairground 2013, Hong Kong People’s Fringe Festival and Green Jazz Festival.
Bowen composed music for solo instrument and small to medium ensembles, with settings ranging from pop, rock, funk to traditional and contemporary jazz music. He led his own group Jack Fish, Bowen Li’s Group and performed original music.
 
Lui Ngao Yuen

Lui Ngao-yuen has been working as a musician since 1999, performing with different bands around Hong Kong and China. He moved to the UK in 2003 and studied Jazz Performance and Composition at Leeds College of Music under the tutelage of Stuart Riley in double bass, Graham Hearn in composition, and Norwegian trumpet player Didrik Ingvaldsen in improvisation and composition. During his time in the UK, Lui performed with various jazz ensembles as a double bassist in events such as BBC Radio 3 FUSE Music Festival. In 2006 he graduated with an exceptional first-class award in Jazz Performance.
Lui composed music for solo instrument, ensembles, big bands and orchestras, with settings ranging from rock and funk to modern jazz, contemporary and experimental music. His works were performed by Composers’ Orchestra, an avant-garde ensemble conducted by Didrik Ingvaldsen.
Currently residing in Hong Kong, Lui composes and performs original music with his quintet Mo-Men-T. The band’s début album, Composition & Improvisation, was released in the summer of 2012, followed by performances at the Hong Kong Fringe Club, Taichung Jazz Festival, Hong Kong People’s Fringe Festival and Hong Kong Green Jazz Festival. The second album, Infinite Lines, was released in 2013 and they also toured in Taipei and performed at the Freespace Fest in the same year. Besides working with Mo-Men-T, Lui continues to collaborate with musicians around the world, including the JohnChen Ensemble, with which he performed about 100 concerts between 2006 and 2011. At 2009 Silk Road Arts Festival, he played in the live band supporting Theatre Fanatico’s production Heading West 2. He also performed in the contemporary dance production Moving/Void as an improviser in 2011. In 2012, Lui was commissioned by Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival to perform and compose original music for the theatre production O You Heavenly Creatures!.
Lui is Artistic Director of Count-In Music Limited which he established in 2013, and was the producer of Music Fairground in 2013 and 2016. He currently teaches at Hong Kong Design Institute and The Education University of Hong Kong as part-time lecturer in popular and jazz music.

Suzanne
Captivating and charismatic on stage, Suzanne has a gift for storytelling and connecting with her audience. She is a vocalist, actor, event host, voice-over artist, interpreter and yoga teacher.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Suzanne first performed on stage at the age of 7, and started taking piano lessons at 5. She also spent a year in England and France respectively and quickly picked up English and French thanks to her musical ear that is also sensitive to the sounds of languages.

Suzanne has performed extensively as a vocalist in Taiwan in numerous Jazz venues and festivals. She has appeared in Shanghai and most recently performed in Hong Kong. Her training in literature, languages and acting along with her bubbly yet sensitive and tender nature allows her to explore wide-ranging styles from chansons, Latin, Django’s swing to Big Band.

Jing Wong graduated as a Theatre Designer and Director in London's Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design with First Honours, Jing Wong went on to create a Fashion Theatre brand with his sister Kay called Daydream Nation in 2007, generating theatrical shows every season. Having signed to People Mountain People Sea, he then released his first live album + EP in December 2012. He was the opening act for Belle & Sebastian, Kings of Convenience and Andrew Bird in their tour to Hong Kong, and played the main stage at Music Festivals such as the Clockenflap, Wow and Flutter and Freespace in West Kowloon promenade. He was also invited to play in Adelaide's OZAsia Festival in 2016, Zandari Festival and PAMS festival in Seoul 2017. His songs have been featured in films by the award-winning director Ann Hui and Heiward Mak, and the attention has helped him tour 30 cities in China.
In 2015 he released one english and one chinese EP ‘How to Disappear’ and ‘生活的小偷’ under his own independent label Mr Nightingale. He is now signed to Frenzi Music and released his 4th EP “我穿過青春”
in 2017. His latest Theatre Concert/New Concept Album “A Spy in the House of Love” was also released and performed in November 2018. Jing is also a keen educator who taught young musicians regularly in events organised by the Renaissance Foundation and ‘Every Life is a Song’.
 
Felix Tham
Felix Tham is a violinist, and has studied extensively under the late great violin pedagogue Professor Lin Yao Ji of the Central Conservatory of Music. Garnering a bevy of local music competition awards, Felix was chosen to represent Hong Kong at the Tochigi Music Festival in Japan as a soloist at age 13. At school and at university, Felix performed extensively as a soloist and ensemble musician. In recent years, through his association with pop jazz funk Acoufunkture, folk tango outfit Cafe 852 and indy "book rock" singer Jing Wong, Felix has been experimenting with ever-expanding genres. His recent collaborations include the critically acclaimed music-drama "A Spy in the House of Love" with Jing Wong, and a recording of the tango "Por Una Cabeza" at the RTHK with Cafe 852.
