Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) announces the appointment of Ms. Rebecca Ip as the new Executive Director with effect from 15 August 2022 following the departure of Ms. Connie Lam.

Ms. Ip joins HKAC with over a decade of experience in leadership roles in the education, performing arts and media sectors. Spanning across corporate and non-profit organisations, Ms. Ip was most recently Executive Director at Victoria Educational Organisation; previously she held similar roles at The French International School and The Hong Kong Ballet, leading the organisations’ operations, development and expansion, and was Senior Advisor for Strategic Commercial Planning for Performing Arts Venues with West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. Earlier in her career, Ms. Ip launched the digital media practice for the Disney Interactive Media Group at The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific. Ms. Ip holds a BA from Brown University (USA) and an MBA from London Business School (UK).

At HKAC, Ms. Ip will lead the Centre’s corporate strategy, fundraising, marketing and operations, working alongside the management team in pursuing the vision and mission of the HKAC. She will also focus on Hong Kong Art School, a  self-financing institution under the HKAC umbrella.  Hong Kong Arts School offers award-bearing fine art programmes, providing a studio-based learning approach and aims to nurture and support young talent within the local art ecosystem and beyond.

Mrs. Dominica Yang, Chairman of the HKAC said, “On behalf of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, I am delighted to welcome Ms. Rebecca Ip as our new Executive Director. Ms. Ip comes from a strong background of business development and management, operations, arts and education.  We are thrilled to have her on board. We also want to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Connie Lam, who has served as Executive Director since 2009, for her leadership over the last 13 years during which the organisation has weathered many challenges and changes, playing a significant and impactful role in the development of the Hong Kong local arts scene through many local and overseas cultural exchange programmes and community programmes. With the start of HKAC’s 45th Anniversary celebrations in September, we are confident that under Ms. Ip, the organisation will reinforce our brand and position in the arts scene, expanding our network and business operations, and building a strong infrastructure to support our mission and to strengthen our programmes and arts education, as we proudly steer towards our Golden 50th Anniversary- a true milestone in the history of the promotion of the arts in Hong Kong.”

Ms. Ip remarked “I am honoured and thrilled to join the Hong Kong Arts Centre, an important icon of the city with a strong heritage in the arts and culture, and am thankful to Mrs. Dominica Yang and the Board. I look forward to working closely with the team and our HKAC partners to further foster HKAC’s long-term sustainable development, and to extend our reach to an even broader audience, both locally and overseas.”

Hong Kong Arts Centre - Art for Passion, Art for Life, Art for All

This year marks the 45th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

Since 1977, the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) has been a platform for nurturing and supporting artists, and infusing art into everyday life. Its unique arts and educational programmes aim to make the arts accessible for all. The HKAC believes in the transformational power of art for people from all walks of life. Established for more than four decades, the HKAC endeavours to bring arts to the people of Hong Kong – by presenting programmes for visual arts, performing arts, moving images and media arts, comics and animation. Our other areas also cover arts education, conferences, festivals, public art and community projects. All with the vision and mission of engaging and inspiring creativity in the Hong Kong community.

In 2000, HKAC founded its education arm, Hong Kong Art School (HKAS). The HKAS provides award-bearing programmes to nurture artists and art practitioners, as well as short enrichment courses for the general public. The HKAC aspires to engage everyone in the community to become an active participant in the arts – as an enthusiast, an artist or a patron.

Let’s continue to embrace ‘Art for Passion, Art for Life, Art for All’, and share the inspiration.
