Screening of the film “Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio” adapted from the book by Amara Lakhous
As part of the event for the Week of Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute Hong Kong presents Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio (“Scontro di civiltà per un ascensore a Piazza Vittorio”), the Italian film adapted from the book of the same title by Amara Lakhous.
This event will be the first of a series of events for EU Book Club, in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and Alliance Française de Hong Kong.
A Q&A session with the author Amara Lakhous will be conducted in English after the screening.

Synopsis:
In a multi ethnic old condominium the lift is the central meeting place and becomes the belligerent cause of personal dissatisfaction, abuses, misunderstandings and mistrusts. When young Lorenzo, the local bully, is found burned dead inside the lift, during the ensuing investigation each of the tenants offer their querulous testimony. It is then, in a wave of solidarity each one will accuse himself of what they believe to be a murder, but only the elevator, the silent witness knows the truth.
