Hong Kong Arts Centre presents Jockey Club ifva Everywehre – 48 Hour Film Challenge officially kicks off 12 teams set sail on their mission- (im)possible journey

Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – 48 Hour Film Challenge (the Challenge), presented by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was officially kicked off at the Hong Kong Arts Centre on 10 November 2017. Officiated by the Head of Charities (Grant Making - Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Ms. Rhoda Chan, Member of Board of Governors & Chairman of Building Committee of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Mr. Peter Yuen and the ifvaDirector, Ms. Kattie Fan, the two-days-and-two-nights challenge began at 7p.m and will finish on 12 November 2017 at 7p.m.

“Since 1979, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has supported the development of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, covering both its hardware and software,” Ms. Rhoda Chan said at the ceremony. “This year, the Club has increased its donation so that the Jockey Club ifva Everywhere programme can be extended for four years and its scale can be enlarged, in order to reach a wider audience.” Mr. Peter Yuen, expressed his gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for their recognition and backing for ifva, a platform to promote moving images and nurture the artists.

The Challenge received close to 100 applications, and 12 teams (Please see Appendix for team details) were selected to take up the challenge and to create a short film within 48 hours. Teams with different backgrounds share the same goal - the two grand prizes: Jury Prize which is assessed by 3 professional filmmakers, award-winning scriptwriter, Yau Nai-hoi; experienced cinematographer, Kwan Pun-leung; and director of GallantClement Cheng; and Audience Prize which is selected by audience’ vote in the screening gala. Winners will be awarded cash prizes of up to HK$100,000. Winners will also have an opportunity to participate in the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival in France.

This is a journey full of experimentation in creativity, organizational skill and time management. Completed works will be featured at the Premiere and Prize Presentation to be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza on 8 December 2017. Local indie band, RubberBand, will perform at the Screening Gala to cheer for the teams, and witness the winners’ glorious moment.

ifva serves as a platform that actively promotes and encourages creative talents in Asia, making short films, videos, animation and media art.  Since 2015, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust sponsored the Jockey Club ifva Everywhere which aims at engaging the general public, bringing a series of exciting programmes, including open-air screening, community tours, master class, and one of the most anticipated outdoor carnival, ifva Everywhere Carnival which will take place next Fall.
