This October, Hong Kong Arts Centre is delighted to co-present with the Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong and  The Belgian Comic Strip Center (BCSC) the Beautiful Images of the Belgian Comic Strip Center exhibition. This exhibition presents a selection of original works specially created for the Belgian Comic Strip Center, which covers across different time period in the center’s history.  The exhibition will be held at the HKAC’s 3/F Experimental Gallery from October 1 until October 15, 2014, and the opening ceremony successfully took place this evening (September 30, 2014). Officiating guests included Mr. Ronald Kan, Member, Board of Governors, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Mr. Evert Maréchal, Consul-General, Consulate-General of Belgium in Hong Kong and Mr. Ferry Van VosselenPresident of the Belgian Comic Strip Center (BCSC) and Comic Strip Artist.

The Belgian Comic Strip Center (BCSC) opened its doors to the public on 6 October 1989 in Brussels, this year will mark the 25th anniversary of its opening. This exhibition is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its opening to the public and the 30th anniversary of the organisation that was instrumental in founding the Center, and the 1st anniversary of the Comix Home Base. Presented in the exhibition is a selection of 41 original art pieces specially created for the BCSC at different times, these art pieces by 30 popular Belgium comic artists testify the outstanding creativity and talent of them. A “Belgium Comics Zone” with examples of Belgium comic books can be found at the zone, which will hopefully introduce every visitor to the marvelous Belgian comic world

Mr. Jean Auquier, Director of the BCSC, tells us more about BCSC “The Center is, at one and the same time, the prestigious setting for great permanent and temporary exhibitions, a library and documentation center unique of its kind and, of course, a home to artists. In addition to promoting Belgian and international comic strip creation, the place that people simply refer to as THE Comic Strip Museum welcomes over two hundred thousand visitors a year, from all continents. If the Center owes its success to its dynamism and to the popularity of the comic strip, it owes it just as much to its prestigious setting, a former textile department store (1906) designed by the great architect, Victor

Horta, a leading light of Art Nouveau. Throughout the first twenty-five years of the existence of the Belgian Comic Strip Center, many comic strip artists have created images illustrating the BCSC or taking the Center as the backdrop for one or the other episode of comic strip adventures.”
