About the Hong Kong Arts Centre Flagship Exhibition
The Flagship Exhibition has been designed as a platform for understanding, presenting and sharing the curatorial perspective and practice in Asia. Guest curators with strong Asian connection are invited to share their unique visions and to explore art concepts that reflect the region. The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) launched its first Flagship Exhibition in 2009 with the purpose of enriching the Asian experience in the context of curatorship and bringing a new and unique perspective to the international contemporary art scene. Asian curators from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore were featured in the past editions of the Flagship in which these curators offered their unique lens to look at Asian contemporary art.
About the Exhibition "Collaboration in Collision"
"Collaboration in Collision" is a site-responsive exhibition which re-articulates as an open invitation to two experienced artists/ collectives. Two entities, experienced art practitioners or artist initiatives, are invited to create a site-responsive exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, turning the exhibition space into a dialogic organism as one of the HKAC’s flagship exhibition.
This exhibition will begin with each participating entity carrying their own vocabulary from technological forms to conventional art forms such as art and tech, painting, installation, digital art, ceramics, or different kinds of artistic practices. After a period of mutual dialogue and collaboration, the two vocabularies will be coexisted, overlapped or reconciled. The resulting exhibition will be a juxtaposition, a fusion, or even a third voice that could have emerged or immersed between each other. It is not a group exhibition of different artists’ works; it is an experiment in how two cosmologies can share gravity in connection. At the same time, this will be a site responsive exhibition where the art spaces or architecture of the HKAC is treated as a silent third collaborator.
