About the Exhibition
COMIX PULSE is delighted to present ‘Sketching the Everyday and Beyond: Guy Delisle’s Approach on Storytelling’, an exhibition celebrating the compelling visual storytelling of internationally renowned Canadian graphic novelist Guy Delisle. Known for his minimalist yet deeply expressive illustration style, Delisle’s work offers profound insights into the art of transforming the everyday into extraordinary narratives.
The exhibition features nine selected works and a variety of his comic books, inviting viewers to explore Delisle’s unique sensibility to weave humour, history, and personal reflection into compelling visual stories. From his early travelogues that capture cultural and social observations with wit and nuance, to his tender and humorous depictions of parenting, and most recently his exploration of history in the biographical graphic novel ‘Muybridge’, Delisle’s storytelling traverses genres and subject matters take readers on journeys across vastly different cultures and political landscapes.
About the comics ‘Muybridge’
Sacramento, California, 1870. Pioneer photographer Eadweard Muybridge becomes entangled in railroad robber baron Leland Stanford’s delusions of grandeur. Tasked with proving Stanford’s belief that a horse’s hooves do not touch the ground while galloping at full speed, Muybridge gets to work with his camera. In doing so, he inadvertently creates one of the single most important technological advancements of our age—the invention of time-lapse photography and the mechanical ability to capture motion.
Critically-acclaimed cartoonist Guy Delisle returns with another engrossing foray into nonfiction: a biography about Eadweard Muybridge, the man who made pictures move. Despite career breakthrough after career breakthrough, Muybridge would only be hampered by betrayal, intrigue, and tragedy. Delisle’s keen eye for details that often go unnoticed in search of a broader emotional truth brings this historical figure and those around him to life through an uncompromising lens.
Translated from the French by Helge Dascher & Rob Aspinall, Muybridge turns a spotlight on what lives in the shadow of an individual’s ambition for greatness, and proves that Eadweard Muybridge deserves to be far more than just another historical footnote.

Mr Guy DELISLE
Canadian graphic novelist and animator
Guy Delisle is a Canadian scriptwriter, illustrator and colorist, born in 1966 in Quebec City. From an early age, he developed a passion for comics, drawing inspiration from the Franco-Belgian classics.
His career in animation spans ten years, during which he works with Folimage in Valence and teaches animation in La Réunion. In 1994, he took part in the ‘Le Moine et le Poisson’ project with Michaël Dudok de Wit, which won an award at the Annecy Festival. Delisle went on to work on several productions, including ‘Papyrus’, ‘Les Contes du chat perché’, and ‘La Mouche’ after Lewis Trondheim.
His experience as an animation supervisor in China inspired his first autobiographical album, ‘Shenzhen’ (2000), a humorous travel diary. He also published ‘Pyongyang’ in 2002, an account of his stay in North Korea, offering a glimpse into this isolated country.
In 2007, ‘Chroniques birmanes’ recounts a year spent in Rangoon with his wife, an employee of Médecins sans frontières. His flagship work, ‘Chroniques de Jérusalem’ (Jerusalem Chronicles), was published in 2011 and tells the story of a year spent living in Israel. This album won him the Fauve d'Or for best album at the Angoulême Festival in 2012 and sold 180,000 copies, contributing to his international success.
In 2013, Delisle returned to humorous comics with ’Le Guide du mauvais père’, the first volume of which sold over 50,000 copies. His latest book, ‘Pour une fraction de seconde : La vie mouvementée d'Eadweard Muybridge’ was published in October 2024.
His work has been translated into 13 languages, making him a recognised figure in contemporary comics.
